The creative process of this project was characterized by many ups and downs. The inspiration came from browsing through old and new atlases, but the practical implementation quickly showed how much time and intensive work is behind maps and visualizations. The project was more challenging than expected, as not only a lot of time was needed for familiarization, but also a new approach to combining creative work and intensive research had to be found. The most important steps were filtering relevant data and presenting it in an understandable way. There were also difficulties with the choice of colors and the decision not to use patterns but pure lines. After several test prints and late changes, I was finally able to get behind the design. The project taught me to trust the process and listen to my gut feeling.
Part of the overall project “Global Earthquake Atlas” under the direction of Enrico Bravi. The project won bronze at the European Design Awards* and a Joseph Binder Award* in the Design Fiction category in 2024.
